NIDS Assignment

1. Look at the booklet for the CD-ROM (CD no 10, guide) and the website www.shef.ac.uk/library/libdocs/ml-cd7.html.

2. Find a reference to John Preston MANN (on CD?). Record the NIDS fiche number reference. Record here what the CD says about the record or attach a printout.

3. Find estate records for the Wilkinson family in Kent. The reference you find will mention Oliver Cromwell twice. What does the second reference say about him. Write down each fiche number and part number of each fiche you use to answer the question. If you can’t find it in twenty minutes, write down what you tried to do.

4. Look for a reference in the fiche index to Sir Arthur Chichester, Lord Deputy of Ireland (1563-1625). What is the reference given, to what does it refer? Look up and describe what is given in NIDS on that reference.

5. Browse the repositories list on the CD. How many are there that begin with the letter D? Write them down here, then write down the D’s listed for the NIDS fiche in the register (alphabetical list in front). Compare the two and write a comment on the comparison.
